  • The trophies for the winners of the First Menorca Maxi regatta have been created by the artist and sculptor Marc Jesús who lives in Menorca. He has already officially handed them over to the president of the Island council, Santiago Tadeo and the Councillor for Tourism Mª. Salomé Cabrera.

These trophies have been inspired by the typical Menorcan shoe known as the avarca. Jesús has subtly incorporated the intrinsic shapes of the sole, strap and top into structures that conjure up the sleek lines of Wally yachts. They are made from stainless steel, iron and wood.

The Council for Tourism has explained that they commissioned the trophies from Marc Jesús as he is one of the members of their Embassadors Project, and who as a well-known artist can attract potential visitors to the island through different channels.

The trophies will be presented on the 25th May, at the end of four intense and action-packed days of racing in and around Mahón Harbour.
